This role is responsible for the daily technical support and stability of core banking applications, focusing on resolving operational incidents and optimizing system performance. By managing problem resolution, collaborating with specialists, and implementing process improvements, the position ensures minimal service disruptions and enhanced system reliability.
Reports to: Manager Business Systems and Channels
Key Responsibilities:
- To review, analyze, and create detailed documentation of business systems and user needs including work flow, program functions and steps required to develop or modify systems.
- Provide comprehensive support for the bank’s core Banking System (T24), ERPs, and peripheral applications. This involves access management and performance tuning to ensure all users have everything they need to operate.
- Execution of End of Day (EOD), End of Year (EOY) and End of Month (EOM) batch processes. This entails monitoring automated tasks, verifying that daily transactions are balanced, and troubleshooting any batch failures to ensure the bank is ready for business the following morning.
- Provide specialized technical support to resolve system bugs and operational incidents. By conducting root cause analysis and collaborating with vendors or infrastructure teams, you eliminate recurring issues and minimize service disruptions to maintain a stable production environment
- Provide critical technical expertise for IT projects, including system upgrades and the rollout of new modules. The role involves configuring environments, supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and managing the transition of new features from project phase to live daily operations.
- Ensure that all applications comply with Bank of Uganda (BOU) regulations, local data privacy laws and support Audit activities
- Drive process improvements through automation and scripting to reduce manual intervention in system maintenance. Additionally, you support Disaster Recovery (DR) efforts by participating in regular failover drills to ensure business continuity in the event of a primary system failure
- Consult with business managers to determine business, functional and technical requirements for specified applications
- Administer, manage data collection, usage reporting, and integration and user management on back-office systems. Prepare routine reports (financial, quality, production, customer service)
- Assist application users in identifying and describing problems or opportunities that need to be addressed.
- Design and develop users’ manuals and corresponding training programs for new and existing systems.
- To prepare, in consultation with users, implementers, and operation representatives the acceptance plan for any new changed system
- Assist Business Unit leader to develop tactical and strategic product, services and or programs to support the business unit’s goals
- Work closely with the business partners to identify and maximize opportunities to use Information Technology to improve product service and /or program business processes.
Education.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or a Computing field
Experience.
- 2 Years’ Experience in Systems administration
- Microsoft, Linux or Unix Certifications are an added advantage
- T24 Core banking system administration knowledge is an added advantage
Skills and competencies.
- Continuous update of How-to Manuals with all new applications to ensure proper systems continuity
- Preparing system reports in terms of system failures and downtime statistics
- Ensuring availability and proper use of computer software to meet operational requirement
- Knowledge of T24 Core Banking System.
- Good knowledge of technical infrastructure and its interdependencies.
- Good knowledge of IT infrastructure and its interdependencies. Banking experience or awareness of the bank’s products, services, and business.
- Relational database management skills (Oracle, MSSQL and Postgresql).
- Proven experience to handle pressure and work under stress in emergencies.
- Knowledge of Application Programming interfaces (APIs).
- People management skills.
- Generation of accurate, timely and understandable management information as required. (for business management).
- Continuously monitor, review and maintain the agreed performance levels necessary to deliver the operational volumes required to meet the group’s business internal and external needs.
