Job description

To safely carry out Machining works in the Machine shop, Kansanshi maintenance Workshop and Open Pit field machine works including bolt extraction on Diggers, Drills, Haul Trucks, Graders, Dozers and Loaders under Heavy Welding and Field Maintenance Engineering section of KMP Processing plant according to the prescribed standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Must be able to operate a heavy duty drilling machine, Lathe Machine, Line Boring Machine, Milling Machine, Power Saw, Pedestal Grinders, Thread Tapping tools, hand tools, lifting Hoists, Chain blocks and other engineering workshop application tools.
  • Must measure, examine and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Set up, adjust and operate all basic machine tools
  • Align and secure holding fixture, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto a drilling machine.
  • Must be able to clean and lubricate the machine shop machines, tools and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains and foreign matter.
  • Other duties as instructed by the Supervisor.

Qualification, Experience & Skill:

  • G12 Certificate
  • A Craft certificate as a machinist fitter and turner from a recognized Zambian institution [higher qualifications will be advantageous].
  • A valid Zambian light vehicle driving license.
  • 3 years’ experience in the mining maintenance industry or equivalent private industry as a qualified artisan machinist.
  • Troubleshooting abilities on various types of Mining equipment, Haul Trucks, Drills, Diggers, Loaders and various types of machine works on fixed/mobile plants
  • Machining workshop experience in open pit, crushing, milling, flotation, tailings, reagents, and water services (with preference given to mobile plant experience).
  • Experience/knowledge to operate fork-lifts, man-lifts and overhead cranes will be advantageous.
  • The ability to measure and read Engineering detail drawings.
  • Troubleshooting and fault-finding abilities.
