Qualifications and experience:
1. Must have a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from a recognized institution of higher learning.
2. Must have Bachelors degree of Arts in Counseling Psychology from a recognized institution of higher learning.
3. Must have practical work experience with young adults of at least not less than three (3) years.
4. Must have people skills:
a. Ability to listen well
b. Ability to build warm, respectful and caring relationships
c. Ability to maintain confidentiality
d. Ability to analyze problems and formulate management plans
5. Public speaking skills: ability to communicate clearly to individuals, small and large groups.
6. Teaching skills: ability to clearly present academic information and teach practical skills to both individuals and groups at both undergraduate and graduate level.
7. Interpersonal professional skills: ability to cooperate and network on a multidisciplinary team including medical, chaplaincy, academic staff, administration, Director of Student Affairs office, and other counselors and psychologists to optimally serve the clients.
8. Discernment and good judgement to know when to refer a client to another counselor or another professional in consultation with the University Counselor.
9. Good time management.
10. Good knowledge of University policies, structures and general working of the University.
11. Must be a mature and practicing Christian of integrity.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct individual counseling sessions with any member of the university community who may require counseling services.
2. Group counseling sessions for individuals who may be working through similar challenges.
3. Provide learning opportunities for members of the university community through talks, seminars, workshops, and public discussions on issues that concern their mental, emotional, relational and over-all well-being.
4. Build up, maintain and continually update the information and resource base within the Counseling Department and Office: books, pamphlets, audio-visual resources.
5. Supervise counselor trainees who carry out counseling practicum within the University and under the Counseling Department.
6. Handle administrative work when called upon.
7. Deputize the University Counselor.
8. Any other official duties assigned by the University Counselor, the Director of Student Affairs and Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration.
