ICPAU is the national professional accountancy body in Uganda, established by The Accountants Act in 1992, now the Accountants Act, 2013. It has the legal mandate to regulate and maintain the Standard of Accountancy in Uganda; to prescribe and regulate the conduct of accountants and practising accountants in Uganda; as well as conduct professional accountancy examinations in Uganda.

- Key Responsibilities
- . Drafts comments on consultation documents, questionnaires and other forms of surveys issued by the relevant standard setting bodies.
2. Responds to technical queries on international accounting, auditing and ethics standards.
3. Drafts technical guidance material on thematic areas relevant to international accounting, auditing and ethics standards.
4. Identifies and prepare articles for publication on International Standards on international accounting, auditing and ethics standards.
5. Conduct research and surveys on topical areas in liaison with national and international standard-setters and other stakeholders.
6. Participates in the development and review of technical material for e-learning and other capacity enhancement projects.
7. Participates in the Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards evaluation process and prepares feedback reports.
8. Provides technical support to the CPD programme to ensure quality, clarity, relevance and adequacy.
9. Participates in the development of comments on legislation and regulations that impact the Accountancy profession.
10. Participates in developing and implementing a staff training programme on professional standards.
11. Provides administrative and technical support to the Professional Standards Committee and its Panel and any other Working Groups.
12. Provide support to the Institute’s Quality Assurance Programme.
13. Builds and maintains relationships with other organizations on areas of mutual interest.
14. Carries out any other duties as requested by the Senior Technical Officer. - Qualifications
