RESPONSIBILITIES
The Biomedical Prevention Officer will lead the delivery of safe voluntary male medical circumcisions and overall biomedical prevention services, coordinating activities with other clinical team members and stakeholders. The Biomedical Prevention Officer will work with other health care providers in the delivery of quality, comprehensive and integrated HIV prevention services. S/he will lead the delivery of combination prevention services and integration of HIV care and treatment for VMMC clients who test HIV positive. S/he will twin with the military healthcare workers in male circumcisiAon services to ensure their participation and skills development. S/he will also offer ART/TB and cervical cancer screening services in collaboration with the Phocweni HIV service delivery nurse.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Performs VMMC procedures in line with the national nurse-led VMMC guidelines and orders and restocks VMMC supplies;
  • Ensuress that all VMMC protocols and checklists are available at the site and strictly adhered to;
  • Leads VMMC CQI and QA activities and monitor adverse events, ensuring a 24-hour response system is in place;
  • Monitors the HIV prevention cascade for linkages to biomedical prevention services and ensure that all HIV positive VMMC clients receive HIV treatment;
  • Collaborates with the Phocweni HIV service delivery nurse in the provision of HIV/TB and cervical cancer screening services;
  • Oversees a team of inhouse VMMC recruiters and the overall VMMC demand creation plan;
  • Supports customer satisfaction surveys and recruitment of VMMC champions to promote VMMC services in the military units and clinics catchment area;
  • Compiles all project related reports and VMMC performance trackers and data to monitor demand creation cascades in collaboration with the M&E team;
  • Carry out other tasks consistent with the nature of this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated familiarity with PEPFAR, MOH VMMC guidelines and policies, and requirements for reporting VMMC adverse effects;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills;
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and able to adapt to fast-changing donor requirements;
  • Ability to travel in various areas within Eswatini;
  • Prior experience working within the military environment would be beneficial.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Nursing Science and a diploma in midwifery or its equivalence;
  • Experience in a surgical and/or clinical setting preferred;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a clinical nurse;
  • Minimum 2 years’ conducting VMMC surgical procedures;
  • Nurse-Led VMMC Certified in line with Eswatini MoH standards;
  • IMAI and NARTIS Trained;
  • Experience managing VMMC demand creation teams;
  • Be able to communicate in English and Siswati;
  • Commitment to upholding URC’s values.
