Role purpose
The purpose of the role is to:
- Promote awareness of the organization’s mission and work, especially in the field of Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
- Cultivate a network of dedicated donors and volunteers.
- Spot new fundraising opportunities.
- Plan fundraising initiatives to meet financial goals.
- Form strong relationships with external stakeholders.
- Ensure major donors, both foundations and government donors are satisfied and kept in the loop.
Key responsibilities
- Effectively convey Hivos’ mission, vision, and programs to potential donors.
- Coordinate and lead Hivos’ proactive outreach towards donors focusing on the African continent.
- Significant contributing to the financial target of Hivos.
- Leading and guiding proposal/consortia teams.
- Write and reviewing proposals.
- Organize fundraising events in collaboration with program and communication colleagues
Person specifications
- Master’s degree in communications, business, public relations, or related field.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Business Development, sales and marketing knowledge.
- Technical knowledge and skills in Business Development processes and procedures, both internal and external with donors.
- Proven track record in writing successful grant proposals, press releases, and fundraising letters.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills in English including to facilitate/lead proposal development workshops, and write strong concept notes and proposals.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills
- Pro-active attitude both internal and external towards (new) donors
- Ability to lead and motivate colleagues and external stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail
- Passion for research/donor intelligence
- Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning events
- Competence with donor management systems
- Confidence in public speaking

The Regional Office is based in Harare, Zimbabwe. This position will be based in Harare, Zimbabwe or Lusaka, Zambia. Hivos welcomes international & regional applicants but can only offer a position to only those with a valid work permit for Zimbabwe or Zambia.
