DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, repair, and maintain wooden structures, including doors, windows, frames, cabinetry, shelving, furniture, and partitions.
- Construct custom furniture and fixtures as required by different departments and offices.
- Measure and cut materials according to project specifications, ensuring accurate and high-quality craftsmanship.
- Assist with the design and planning of carpentry projects as directed by the Central Services Manager.
- Ensure all carpentry work complies with safety standards, university policies, and building codes.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of carpentry work across campus buildings to ensure safety and functionality.
- Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring materials and tools are stored properly and safely.
- Assist in setting up, remodeling, or refurbishing spaces within the university as needed, including offices, classrooms, and common areas.
- Work closely with other trades (plumbing, electrical, etc.) to support larger construction and renovation projects.
- Document work performed and materials used for project tracking and budgeting purposes.
- Respond to emergency repair requests promptly and efficiently.
- Adhere to university safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.
- Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Artisan Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent qualification from an accredited TVET institution
- Minimum of (3) years relevant working experience as a carpenter, preferably in an institutional or commercial setting.
- Basic knowledge and experience in welding and fabrication will be an added advantage.
