Minimum QualificationApplicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in History; or Archaeology; or Social Anthropology/Ethnography; or Geography; or Tourism; or Fine Art and Design; or Industrial Art and Design; or Natural Science (Zoology, Botany, Palaeontology, Environmental Science); or Education (History, and Geography); or Heritage Management; or Museology plus a Masters Degree in any of the above fields from a recognized University/Institution.Working ExperienceApplicants should have a minimum of twelve (12) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Assistant Commissioner in Government or equivalent level of relevant experience from a reputable organization.Duties
The incumbent will be responsible to the for performing the following duties:-
– Coordinating the formulation and review of policies, plans, programs and guidelines for the Museums in the country;
– Providing strategic leadership in the development of annual recurrent and capital development estimates for the museums;
– Coordinating the development and management of Museums Projects;
– Supervising the development and enhancement of National and regional museums;
– Coordinating the acquisition of museum artefacts;
– Coordinating the implementation and domestication of the conventions and agreements affecting museum artefacts in liaison with UNESCO, ICOM and other development partners;
– Coordinating the research and publications in Ethnography, History, Archaeology and general Museology;
– Overseeing the establishment of private and community museums in the country to ensure they meet the set standards;
– Coordinating the restitution of artefacts from other countries.
