The Communications Analyst – Disaster Risk Reduction will be responsible for the following tasks:
Communication Planning:
Developing and updating communication plans for the African Union Commission’s DARBE DRR Unit. This includes targeting 55 Member States, project partners like UNDP, UNDRR, UN-Habitat, and various countries and organizations. The focus is on disaster risk reduction.
Visibility Enhancement:
Collaborating with the African Union’s Directorate of Communication and other relevant stakeholders to enhance the visibility of the DARBE DRR Unit. This involves creating media releases and social media posts related to regional and international events, training sessions, high-level panels, and other activities on the AUC calendar.
Knowledge Dissemination:
Coordinating the online dissemination of knowledge products, particularly the Institutional and Operational Framework for Multi-Hazard Early Warning and Early Action System in Africa, Biennials Reports on disaster risk reduction, and other related reports. This includes managing African Union’s webpages related to the African Union’s disaster risk reduction activities.
Reporting Strengthening:
Strengthening the reporting capabilities of the DARBE DRR Unit. This involves preparing activity reports, editing technical proposals for donors, and reviewing institutional and operational documents prepared by the programme team at DARBE DRR Unit in Addis Ababa.
Event Support:
Contributing to event management and note-taking during events in Addis Ababa and missions to Member States for the DARBE DRR Unit. This includes activities like steering committee and technical working group meetings, high-level technical panels, assessments, training workshops, and other official events on the AUC calendar.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualification:
Master´s degree in Communications, Advocacy, Journalism, Digital Media, International Diplomacy, Disaster Risk Reduction or other relevant disciplines.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with two additional years of relevant experience will be given due consideration in lieu of a Master’s degree.
Experience:
Minimum of two years (with Bachelor’s degree) of relevant professional experience at national or international level.
Language:
Fluency in English both written and verbal.
Knowledge of other UN language is desirable.
