The Continental youth-led research seeks to support the definition of advocacy priorities that will guide regional and cross-continental efforts for the project’s duration. By centering the leadership of young people in knowledge production, the study will identify young Africans’ needs, obstacles, and priorities regarding the topics included in the AU-EU partnership. This evidence will lead to identifying key issues deserving of continental focus for youth-led accountability, campaigning, advocacy, and further research. The study will provide valuable insight and access to information otherwise unavailable to researchers and advocates from the region. In addition to informing youth-led advocacy, the results of this study will support efforts to initiate intergenerational dialogue and, ultimately, influence EU-AU policy and enablers/stakeholders processes and practices.
About You
Restless Development seeks to engage 28 African researchers as part of the research process. You would be a good fit for this role if you:
- Are between 15-34 years old
- Are you based in any of the 14 mentioned African countries
- Have completed secondary school
- Are comfortable communicating in English
- Are active within civil society spaces – youth activism, community engagement, social movements, etc. and/ or have demonstrated community leadership.
Applications are strongly encouraged from young women, people with disabilities, and those who have previously conducted youth-led research with Restless Development.
As a Young Researcher, you will support the project’s implementation and lead the research cycle, defining the framework, collecting data and analyzing findings, and developing the report.
Specifically, you will:
- Attend a five-day foundation training in January 2025.
- Contribute towards the design of the research and data collection tools
- Mobilise respondents from communities of interest
- Collect data in person and online per agreed-upon targets/deliverables through the agreed research design.
- Participate actively in a data analysis workshop with other co-researchers to identify key findings.
- Conduct validation exercises in select communities.
- Review and feedback on the final report; and
- Promote the findings among those in your networks and beyond.
We expect you to be available eight working hours per week throughout the contract period (January – June 2025) to deliver this work. You will receive a monthly volunteer stipend of Euro 180.00 and additional costs for data collection (mobile data, refreshments, etc.).
