You will be based in Phalombe, with travel to the intervention municipalities, as well as to other areas of the country for exchanges and/or surveys. You will be responsible for the management, evaluation and development of the project in the Phalombe region. You will be accompanied by the Sector Manager based at headquarters.
The main missions will be:
- Ensure the consistency and relevance of the strategy and activities defined in response to identified needs;
- The practical implementation of these activities (including the writing of manuals and the development of suitable tools) and their supervision;
- The development and implementation of a reliable and relevant monitoring and evaluation system, including ad hoc surveys (protocol development, implementation and analysis) to assess the impact of the programme;
- Developing collaboration with authorities (particularly health services) and other local stakeholders, mainly at district level;
- Supervision, evaluation and strengthening of the local team: coordinator, supervisors, field facilitators, logistician, guards;
- Support from the deputy program manager;
- Logistical coordination and proper management of the programme’s financial and material resources (in compliance with the procedures in place and participating in the internal audit system);
- The financial and operational report to the Sector Manager and the Administrative and Financial Manager based at headquarters (monthly accounting and regular activity reports).
Profile sought
You have medical or paramedical training, a Master’s degree in public health or health economics, or failing that, the exercise of concrete responsibilities in the context of public or community health actions.
You have experience in project coordination/management and monitoring/evaluation in the health sector.
You have at least 2 years of prior experience in project/program management in developing countries.
You are fluent in English.
You have knowledge of Malawi or similar contexts.
You have strong teaching, training and facilitation skills.
You demonstrate methodological rigor, patience, diplomacy, a strong ability to negotiate with local authorities, and tenacity.
You are able to work in isolated contexts.
You are independent in your work and have a strong taste for the field.
You have a basic command of statistics.
