Job duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for smoothing and finishing concrete surfaces to complete construction projects. Work on concrete floors, sidewalks, roads or curbs. Ensure the concrete used on job sites is the desired pith, required form and depth.
- Placing forms that hold concrete to ensure the required depth and pitch is achieved.
- Monitoring the effect heat and wind have on curing concrete to ensure high-quality results
- Removing edges on expansion joints and sides
- Installing anchor bolts, steel plates and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete
- Polishing surfaces using smoothing materials, abrasive tools and surfacing machines
- Aligning forms for sidewalks, curbs and gutters
- Waterproofing, damp-proofing and restoring concrete surfaces
- Compacting materials using power vibrators to create leveled bases
- Finishing concrete surfaces with rough or smooth patterns depending on the customer’s preference
- Signaling truck drivers and moving chutes to facilitate pouring concrete onto forms
- Casting and spreading concrete to patch voids
- Applying hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concrete
- Supervising and training Local National workers to help them use special tools to spread concrete
- Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
- Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
- Design, construct, remodel, retrofit, and repair interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete, or brick.
- Design, construct, retrofit, and repair cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, door and window frames, and other types of furniture. May install and repair modular furniture.
- Provide construction support for all disciplines Civil, Electrical, Mechanical activities as required.
- Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
- Inspect related work by subcontractors.
- Estimate cost, time, and materials for carpentry projects.
- Participate in the maintenance and operation of the carpentry shop.
- Clean, maintain, adjust, calibrate, and service equipment used in the performance of duties.
- Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal Code Requirements and report back to supervisor.
- Install, repair, and maintain building roofs.
- Assist in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction.
- Maintain appropriate service and repair records.
- Research, purchase, and inventory equipment parts, chemicals, and supplies.
- Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
- May train and direct the work of other staff in the area.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Three (3) years’ experience as a Journeyman Carpenter.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting carpentry functions at an overseas facility.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
- Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.
- Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED and a Carpenter Vocational Diploma or completed an Apprentice program with a Journeyman Certificate or equivalent experience working as a finish carpenter.
- Passport, Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid drivers’ license from Home of Record.
- Journeyman Certificate
- Security Vetting: Ability to submit Overseas Vetting Questionnaire (OVQ) and Diplomatic Security Identity Assurance System (DSIAS) enrollment certification documents to receive satisfactory clearance approval. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.
- Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.
Desired:
Previous related overseas experience is highly desirable.
Previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.
Experience working with Amentum / PAE.
