Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a diverse group of 21 conditions that are mainly prevalent in tropical areas, where they mostly affect impoverished communities and disproportionately affect women and children. These diseases cause devastating health, social and economic consequences to more than one billion people. The NTD road map 2021-2030 provides the overall guidance for the implementation of NTD activities worldwide.
In December 2020, the NTD department published its first online course in the OpenWHO portal. Since then, three years later, OpenWHO has a dedicated channel on skin NTDs where over 65 courses are published and over 125 000 learners are enrolled.
The success of that initiative has created a severe backlog of courses that are waiting to be published due to the shortage of staff available.
The consultant will facilitate and provide technical guidance to edit, adapt and publish online courses and related activities for the Global NTD Programme.
The Global NTD programme has a software to build nice and interactive timelines. For the last five years the leishmaniasis timeline has not been updated and at least two additional timelines on Chagas disease and sleeping sickness need to be created. The consultant will build and complete that work.
