Perform control room operations procedures within established plant operating parameters and conduct efficient monitoring and control of the production process, in accordance with production plans set by Process Plant management.

In This Role You Will:

Control Room Operations 

  • Operate the plant process circuits in a safe and competent manner to achieve optimum production outputs.
  • Monitor and record the operating performance of all plant process circuits and make appropriate changes to maintain optimum production targets.
  • Communicate control room process information and changes to the relevant stakeholders to minimize production delays.
  • Monitor the process plant equipment to detect any defects and address these for ongoing correct operation and performance.
  • Troubleshoot any variations, malfunctions and breach of process parameters.
  • Conduct thorough shift handover, detailing all relevant information correctly and details all information in various log books and reports relevant to the incoming shift / crew.
  • Maintain a high housekeeping standard in each of the process circuits.
  • Participate and contribute to the development and review of the Process Operations Standard Task Procedures (STP’s).
  • Participate and contribute to continuous improvement programs which will assist in enhancing the performance of the Process Plant operation.
  • Execute plant control room operations to support the achievement of mandated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Maintain an understanding of monthly production targets and progress.
  • Operate two-way radio communications clearly and concisely with Foremen, Maintenance Personnel, other Operators and Professional Staff and follow instructions given.
  • Respond to inquiries and instructions in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Complete all tasks identified in the Processing Operations Management Operating System (MOS) Elements to the specified quality and timeliness as assigned to this role.
  • Troubleshoot and advise on the Distributed Control System (DCS) graphical user interface.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders of the production process to enable operational optimization.

Work Scheduling and Allocation

  • Plan own activities according to allocated control room production schedules.
  • Accomplish work objectives by following and executing on assigned control room production schedule.

Health, Safety and Environment

Maintain a high health, safety and environmental awareness.

Monitor own and peers’ adherence to health and safety measures, protocols, production parameters and standards.

Report any deviation from established health and safety measures and protocols to the Process Supervisor.

Adhere strictly to Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environmental standards.

Oversee that security procedures are followed to minimize the opportunities for theft of gold bearing material or company property.

Act as a role model in complying with and supporting these standards and practices by:

wearing mandatory protective clothing and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), when and where required.

reporting and correcting unsafe acts or conditions.

proactively participating in safety meetings and promoting safe working practices.

strictly adhering to established Standard Task Procedures (STP’s), work policies and security procedures.

actively partaking in hazard identification and correction.

reporting environmental spills immediately and take appropriate action to prevent contamination.

Attending all safety meetings.
 Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

Completion of WASSCE or equivalent certificate.

Additional Knowledge

  • Detailed knowledge of all operating circuits.
  • Working knowledge of process plant equipment.
  • Working knowledge of process operations, particularly crushing, SAG and Ball Milling, Leach / CIL / CIP, elution and electrowinning, and tailings storage facility.
  • Valid Drivers’ License.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 – 6 years’ operating experience in a gold processing plant, of which a minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience should be in Control Room Operating environment.
  • Prior experience in navigating the Citect SCADA system.
  • Process plant commission experience is preferable.

Working Conditions

The position is located at the Ahafo North mine site.

Incumbent is entitled to built-in overtime per the shift roster (6×3) schedule, where overtime is on a voluntary basis, normally during mill shutdowns.

Incumbent is required to sit at a desk for extended periods.

Incumbent conducts precise work and there is a continuous demand for a high degree of concentration for extended periods.

Work environment: The noise level in the control room environment is minimal, however the employee is occasionally required to operate in a safety-critical environment.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Work requires mandatory PPE such as helmet, goggles, high visible clothing, safety harness, ear plugs, and dust mask based on working conditions.
