To assist the University Librarian in providing professional leadership in the management and
coordination of all Library and Information Management Services of the University.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Deputy University Librarian shall assist the University Librarian in:
I) Coordinating the development and review of rules, regulations and guidelines for accessing
books and other library materials in the University Library.
II) Coordinating the acquisition process of books and other library materials in liaison with the
academic departments and Procurement Unit of the University.
III) Developing guidelines governing the archival and retrieval of historic, fragile or intrinsically
valuable materials of the University.
IV) Coordinating the review, up-dating and development of university policies, procedures and
practices governing cataloguing of the University library materials in line with internationally
acceptable practices and procedures.
V) Liaising with the Security Office of the University to ensure security and safety of the
University Library, in line with the University safety and security policies, procedures and
practices.
VI) Coordinating training across the system to ensure that core procedures and practices are
known and understood by the staff and students.
VII) Assessing the workplace and work activities for significant health and safety risks through
organizing safety inspections and audits.
VIII) Coordinating the development and presents the library work plans and budgets to the relevant
offices for incorporation into the overall University work plan and budget.
IX) Representing the University at national and international fora aimed at addressing issues and
concerns of access and sharing of printed and electronically organized information.
X) Requisitioning and accounting for the resources of the University library in accordance with
the operating policies, rules, regulations and guidelines.
XI) Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
The applicant must possess the following:
a) PhD in any of the following disciplines: Library and Information Science, or Information
Systems, or Information Technology, or a related field from a reputable institution of higher
learning.
b) Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Library and Information Science, or
Information Systems, or Information Technology or Library Science or Records and Information
Management, or a related field from a reputable institution of higher learning.
c) An honours Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Library and Information
Science, or Information Systems, or Library Science or Records and Information Management or
a related field from a reputable institution of higher learning;
d) Three (3) scholarly publications in recognised peer reviewed journals.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of (06) years’ work experience in a Library setting, three (3) of which must have been at a
senior level, preferably in a reputable higher education institution.
AGE LIMIT
The applicant must be fifty-five (55) years old or below at the time of application.
TENURE OF APPOINTMENT
The appointment shall be on permanent terms upon successful completion of a probationary period of 6
(six) months (where applicable).
