Objectives of the Institute of Applied Science and Technology: The Institute
shall:
a. Provide research infrastructure and services through activities such as project-based acquisitions towards state-of-the-art equipment in specialized laboratories;
b. Facilitate strategic partnerships between the University of Ghana research
faculty and industry;
c. Promote trans-disciplinary research to address the needs of industry and tackle key national issues;
d. Improve the visibility of scientific and innovative technologies developed at the University through participation in community, national and international for a;
e. Provide industry-based and professional training programmes through
technology transfer by partner faculty and departments/units;
f. Enhance academic research through project-based research fundraising and facilitate improvement of research facilities in partner departments
DUTIES
a. The Director is responsible for providing leadership to the Institute and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order of the Institute in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University

Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the Institute’s Management Committee.
b. The Director is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of
the Institute are duly carried out by members of the Institute.
c. The Director is also responsible for the general administration of the
Institute in respect of human, financial and material resources within the
general framework of University policy.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTE
The successful candidate must:
a. Be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person
from industry eligible for that position.
b. Be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of
research and extension in the relevant disciplines.
c. Provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity
to promote a collegial working environment in the Institute.
d. Demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.
e. Have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of
the Institute.
SALARY
Attractive with fringe benefits including market premium, rent, security and
responsibility allowance.
TENURE
The Director must be able to hold office for a period of four years on terms and
conditions recommended by the Appointments Board, before reaching the
statutory retirement age of 60 years, and may be eligible for re-appointment for a
further term of up to four years.
