The Disease Control Surveillance Assistant shall provide community-based health services, includingdisease prevention, health promotion, and basic treatment, while supporting data collectionandhealth surveillance to enhance the delivery of primary healthcare services. Specific Key Responsibilities:
Serves as a link between fixed district health services and the community and works directlywith village/community leaders, and other volunteers in providing environmental andpersonal health services in collaboration with medical assistant, health assistant andenrolledcommunity health nurses. Conducts community assessments. village inspections, monitors growth and reports diseaseoutbreaks
Participates with others in [providing immunizations, maintaining equipment andimprovingthe quality of water by protecting shallow wells and chlorinating untreated waters.
Treating minor ailments and facilitates formation of village health committees (VHCs) andvolunteers.
Supervises VHCs and volunteers and refers patients and suspects to nearest healthunit
Records data in relevant registers and instruments using HMIS guidelines disseminatetorespective village health committees and report to the designated supervisor.
Prepares monthly work plans
Provides feedback to the community
Any other duties deemed reasonable for the post. Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum of a Malawi School Certificate of Education
Those with a Certificate in Community Health would have an added advantage
At least Five (5) years of progressive experience as Disease Control Surveillance Assistant.
