- To operate dozer to deliver daily maintenance of pit, dump and stockpile floors and roads, as well as managing the efficient operation of all dumping operations, in a safe and controlled manner.
In This Role You Will:
Dozer Pre-Shift and On-Shift Activities
- Attend all pre-shift instruction meetings.
- Communicate with and receive instruction from the Mine Operations Shift Supervisor and follow the 1. Dozer Pre-Shift and On-Shift Activities
- Attend all pre-shift instruction meetings.
- Communicate with and receive instruction from the Mine Operations Shift Supervisor and follow the specified instruction and working plan, prior to the execution of activities.
- Understand the maintenance and dozing activities that need to be completed and the designated location of dozing activities.
- Conduct work assessments and risk assessments and install critical controls and other controls (i.e. signage and communications), prior to dozing.
- Perform pre-start checks on the dozer and log results onto the JIGSAW system.
- Assess the working area to be dozed to determine how to approach the activity.
- Follow laid-down dozing procedures and instructions.
- Run dozer machinery according to standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and standard task procedures (STP’s).
- Operate both the CAT D10 Dozer and CAT 844K Rubber-Tired Dozer safely and competently.
- Conduct pushing/ dozing activities such as:
- clearing pit environment after blasting activities.
- conducting clearing and stripping as required for mining activities.
- maintaining dumping locations through pushing waste material or ore and ensuring access or floors are sheeted to prevent tire damage.
- sloping for reclamation to the required reclamation standards.
- Manage waste dump and stockpile tip-ends including the safe, accurate spotting of haul trucks for dumping.
- Uphold Quality Assurance / Quality Checking standards.
- Maintain in-pit and ex-pit roads to design.
- Use dozer to perform cut and fill to design using GPS (dozer files) or field sticks / pegs.
- Signal Dispatcher on the two-way communication radio to inform of any detected dozer machinery defects or issues.
- Report and escalate all accidents and incidents occurring in the shift immediately to the Dispatcher / Shift Supervisor.
- Monitor the condition of the Dozer’s Ground Engaging Tools and report any deficiencies.
- Perform routine cleaning (housekeeping) to assure the continued smooth operation of the dozer.
- Perform clean up activities and maintain road grades for shovels / excavators and loaders.
- Meet and/or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
- Assist in developing peers to perform quality dozing duties.
- Perform other related activities, as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities:
Dozer Post-Shift Handover
- Conduct post-shift inspections regarding hazards and defects identified and communicate these to Dispatch / Supervisor and the incoming operators for the smooth running of Operations.
- Communicate and provide work status handovers to incoming Dozer Operators.
Stakeholder Management and Engagement
- Communicate with Loading Equipment Operators to verify the safety of clean-up activities inside the loading unit proximity.
- Communicate with Dispatch using via two-way radio.
- Maintain communications between Dozers and Truck Operators.
- Ensure own dozing shift work meets established statutory standards.
Health and Safety Management
- Inspect and operate dozer, in compliance with Newmont and manufacturer specifications.
- Manage risks through the FLRA and JHA processes.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures and legislation.
- Operate the dozer in a safe manner and take steps to prevent minimal wear and tear and / or damage to equipment.
- Work without risk or harm to others.
- Maintain a strong focus of safety throughout all activities.
- Provide hands-on assistance during dozing activities to fellow colleagues to ensure that safe work practices are followed.
- Attend daily morning safety meetings.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- Junior High School and higher Certificate.
Additional Knowledge:
- Mineral Commission Operators License.

- General knowledge of Dozer and other heavy equipment.

- Minimum of 2 – 3 years’ dozing operation experience in an open pit mining environment.

Working Conditions:
The Position is located in the Ahafo North mine site.
