We are seeking to recruit a Driver for a five-year USDA project designed to develop and transform small and medium enterprise (SMEs) poultry value chain into sustainable commercial business in Tanzania. The project will strengthen the feed sector and incorporate climate-smart technologies, improve animal health management practices, Capacity building in agricultural finance services, and strengthening the extension and service providers in Mbeya, Iringa, Songwe, and Rukwa. The position will be based in Mbeya, Tanzania.

Job Summary

The driver’s role will be to operate vehicles and transport cargo and/or passengers for our organization. The driver must have a safe driving record, follow all state and national driving laws, rules, and regulations. In this position, you will follow prearranged routes to destinations or use maps and GPS to navigate routes. You will also maintain vehicle upkeep and cleanliness.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Drive vehicles as directed, and perform basic maintenance procedures to ensure the longest working life possible for these vital capital equipment.
  • Keep track of maintenance record of vehicle (s) to ensure that service schedules are adhered to and to remind the employer in advance when vehicle service is due.
  • Deliver parcels, letters and other relevant items to office and businesses as appropriate and while on safari when directed.
  • Drive long distances with or without LWR Staff when required and adhere with the rules and regulations.
  • Ensure necessary steps are taken as required by rules and regulations in case of involvement in an accident.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is always clean and in good order and all the documentation e.g. Insurance & Road license are up to date.
  • Ensure the vehicle is kept secure at all times.
  • Ensure vehicle is given regular/day-to-day maintenance checks: check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.
  • Take account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations (including current radio news on traffic conditions) to update daily
  • Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs, prepare vehicle spare parts inventory.
  • Prepare and submit vehicle monitoring report, including records of vehicle operations, maintenance, expenses, and mileage at end of each month.

Education & Experience:

  • The candidate must have at least Form IV education and above.
  • Possess a class C driving license.
  • At least advanced driver’s certificate grade two from National Institute of Transport or any recognized Institute
  • At least three (3) years of experience in driving.
  • Previous experience working with an INGO.
  • Good driving record with no major accidents in the past 2 years
  • Proficiency in Swahili and basic understanding of English is required.
