Responsibilities
To strengthen and coordinate disaster risk management coordination by activity stakeholders in Ethiopia.
Facilitate the establishment of a coordinated system of disaster risk management at regions and woreda level
Provide support to DRM Committees at federal, regional, zones, settlement, and local authorities in Ethiopia.
Support relevant networks to establish/reinforce DRM system strengthening capacities and processes from knowledge sharing, including the systematic mapping of capacities to decentralize DRM coordination at all levels.
Strengthen the capacities of partners, relevant counterparts, and DRM institutions/departments, supporting and facilitating the existing disaster networks and enhancing their roles of monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the government of Ethiopia’s DRM policy and strategy.
Support the government DRM institutions to scale up best practices and lessons learned in the decentralization of DRM coordination and practice at all levels.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of experience, Master’s Degree and 10 years of experience in disaster risk management, development studies, political or social sciences, engineering, and other related fields.
Experience in government-led DRM Coordination mechanism in Ethiopia.
Knowledge of and experience in DRM policy development, review, and reporting.
Excellent management, communication, and organizational skills (attention to detail is required); flexibility and capacity to multi-task.
Verbal and written fluency in English is required.
Ability to travel and work throughout Ethiopia in difficult terrain/conditions at times.
