Job description

The Violence Prevention and Response Unit (VPRU) is one of IRC’s five Technical Units alongside Health, Education, Economy Recovery and Development and Governance.

The VPRU brings together the disciplines of Child Protection, Women’s Protection and Empowerment, and Protection & Rule of Law. We seek to reduce people’s vulnerability to violence and support them to recover from the consequences of violence through programs tailored to individual needs and contexts, as well as strategies addressing systemic gaps which contribute to the perpetuation and exacerbation of violence in crisis and conflict environments. Our prevention work focuses on programs that shift power dynamics, promote human rights, and empower people affected by violence and inequality to transform their future. Our response work focuses on ensuring lifesaving and survivor-centered services for people affected by violence and inequality in all their diversity. We work with the people most at risk and seek to address the needs of populations of all ages and backgrounds through a context-relevant, client-centered, intersectional approach. We also know from evidence and experience that in most contexts women and children are disproportionally impacted by unequal power, and therefore those at greatest risk of violence. For this reason, we are committed to specialized approaches for these populations.

Under its Protection and Rule of Law Program within the VPRU, the IRC is implementing a SIDA funded project on Strengthening Capacity to Deliver Access to Justice Programmes for Crisis Affected Populations that will deliver improved protection to crisis affected people through strengthening legal protection programming and ensuring that tools are available for A2J programming in humanitarian response to be grounded in high quality needs analysis.  Under the project, the IRC has developed a Justice Systems Analysis Toolkit to strengthen capacity of frontline protection actors to understand justice systems; and a Paralegal Model Toolkit and Training Manual support adaptation of the paralegal approach to humanitarian crises.

The consultant will support proofreading and editing of the toolkits to ensure clarity and accuracy; and the creation and integration of high-quality visual content that resonate with the protection audience across the toolkits.

Scope of Work:

The Consultant will:

1.     Proofread and edit the toolkits: Proofread and edit the written content in the toolkits for grammar, clarity, consistency and effective communication. The four-part Justice Systems Analysis Toolkit consists of 25 documents with approximately 550 pages in total: while the three-part Paralegal Model Toolkit and Training Manual consists of 75 documents with approximately 800 pages in total.

2.     Develop graphics and visual content: Develop and integrate graphics and visual concepts to create aesthetically appealing toolkits, in consultation with the IRC project team. Translate complex ideas within the toolkits into engaging visual designs.

3.     Adapt toolkits for various mediums: Modify the Justice Systems Analysis Toolkit and the Paralegal Model Toolkit and Training Manual to suit specific mediums, including website and print materials.

Under this contract, the consultant will deliver:

1.       An edited and re-designed Justice Systems Analysis Toolkit that is aesthetically appealing with cohesive messaging and impactful visuals for protection audiences.

2.       An edited and re-designed Paralegal Model Toolkit and Training Manual that is aesthetically appealing with cohesive messaging and impactful visuals for protection audiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

Consultant qualifications and experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications or related field.
  • At least 3 years’ professional experience in graphics design and editing.
  • Proficiency in design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS and basic web design principles a plus.
