- To provide technical support regarding a variety of electrical and instrumentation activities within the mine, with respect to installations, breakdowns, maintenance and repairs.
In This Role You Will:
Maintenance
- Maintain existing electrical and instrumentation equipment in the mine.
- Locate and diagnose faults on electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment.
- Investigate equipment when it fails and determine corrective measures, so that reoccurrence can be minimized.
- Trace circuits of defective units and replace or rectify defective components.
- Perform High Voltage switching.
- Inspect transformers and conduct basic maintenance activities (i.e. checking temperature and advising when it should be repaired, replaced or serviced).
- Perform basic troubleshooting on breakdowns.
- Conduct lightning detector checks and perform any maintenance service.
- Conduct fire detector checks and perform any maintenance service or parts replacements.
- Conduct earth resistance tests, as and when required.
- Align, fit and assemble component parts, using hand tools, power tools, fixture, templates and microscopes.
- Attend to breakdowns timeously, as soon as instruction has been received, to ensure that the mine continues to operate effectively.
- Provide inspections, repairs, installations and recommendations, as and when required.
Installations
- Work from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and equipment specifications when making installations.
- Make calculations for load requirements for circuits and choose the appropriate size and grade of component.
- Install all new electrical and instrumentation equipment, as instructed by the Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Supervisor.
- Conduct RCD (Residual Current Devices) testing on all new electrical installations.
Testing
- Conduct Statutory Earth Resistance Testing as per compliance requirements.
- Perform appliance testing and tagging (statutory works).
Team Participation
- Receive job cards from the E&I Supervisor containing daily activities.
- Participate in daily meetings to receive feedback on the previous day’s tasks.
- Provide electrical and instrumentation guidelines to all Newmont departments, as and when required.
Health and Safety
- Adhere and comply to all Health and Safety rules and regulations while on the job.
- Adhere and comply to all local environmental and mining regulations of Ghana.
- Wear and maintain adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the job.
- Maintain general good housekeeping standards within area of responsibility (clean, functional machinery and correctly stored tools).
- Participate in routine site inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
Reporting
- Contribute data inputs for the following reports:
- planned maintenance reports.
- activity and Incident reports.
- inspection and H&S reports.
- weekly Breakdown reports.
- Maintain protocol and associated channels of formal and informal reporting.
Your Training, Skills and Experience Checklist:
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technician III.
Additional Knowledge:
- Knowledge of electric motors.
- Knowledge of PLC (Programable Logic Controller), SCADA (Supervisory control and data acquisition) and telemetry systems.
- Understanding of the operational regulation and protection of High Voltage equipment.
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a mining environment.
