The Green Cities Infrastructure Programme (GCIP) is a key component of the UK Centre of Expertise for Green Cities and Infrastructure (GCI). It aims to accelerate investment in, and delivery of, growth-enabling infrastructure and urban development that is responsible, reliable, inclusive, low-carbon and climate resilient. GCIP’s impact framework and embedded goals include the promotion and mainstreaming of social inclusion, economic equity and poverty reduction whilst also driving International Climate Finance (ICF) aligned project pipelines.
This is a call for an expression of interest only , towards key consultancy roles in the Energy Sector in Africa(Ghana, Zambia) on the ongoing GCI Programme, with expertise in following technical areas:
- Energy Procurement
- Energy permitting and licensing
- Energy Institutions and Institutional capacity building
- Energy Economists
- Renewable Energy
- Power Generation
- Energy Policy
- Power Trading
- Transmission engineer
- Community Engagement (relating to Energy)
- Power systems economists
- Variable renewable energy sources (VRES)
- VRES Investment
- VRES Procurement
Candidate Specification:
Qualification
- Role specific although and advanced degree in a relevant discipline Master’s degree is preferred
- Experience & Knowledge
- We are looking for junior, senior, and principal expert with relevant work experience in International Development projects. Previous work experience with FCDO (or DFID) is an advantage. In-country experience required.

• Strong sector specific knowledge with relevant geographic sector experience.
• Strong word, powerpoint and communications skills are essential.
• Excellent management, relationship skills and attention to detail is critical.
• Excellent knowledge of English language (active and passive)
• Excellent writing and communication skills and experience with writing – English- progress reports
• Excellent understanding of the local Political Economy
• Fluency / advanced knowledge of the local working language is preferred.
