- Coordinate all aspects relating to the Ahafo North site laboratory management to ensure all related environmental policies, procedures and standards, Ghanaian laws and regulations as well as Newmont Corporate Environmental Standards are complied with at all times.
- In This Role You Will:
Environmental Laboratory Analysis
- Conduct laboratory tests as required and ensure procedures are conducted in accordance with protocols and QA/QC procedures.
- Develop and manage environmental monitoring protocols and reporting including QA/QC for Water quality, Air Quality, Noise Monitoring, Blast monitoring to satisfy legal and regulatory reporting commitments.
- Maintain and calibrate environmental laboratory and monitoring equipment.
- Ensure the dispatch of water, soil and tissue samples and the preparation of chains of custody for certified Laboratories for analysis.
- Ensure chain of custody is followed in sampling and dispatching samples to external labs.
- Responsible for lab inspections, hazard identification in the lab and inspection of lab equipment’s to make sure they are working properly.
- Ensure that all reagents and a well labeled bottles are in stock for analysis.
- Ensure that emergency response kit is well stocked for emergency monitoring.
Environmental Data Collection and Assurance
- Managing and maintaining the Environmental data system by continuously collating and validating environmental data and updating the database from field monitoring programs and from results of laboratory analysis.
- Conduct inventory assessments to ensure necessary supplies are available to conduct monitoring programs.
Environmental Reporting
- Manage environmental data analysis and trends to measure the effectiveness of environmental management programs and preparing and presenting weekly reports on key performance indicators of environmental management programs.
- Prepare and submit returns and reports to satisfy regulatory requirements.
- Identify trends in environmental monitoring data.
- Report all non-compliance issues immediately.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures for various laboratory analysis.
Environmental Compliance
- Register and track compliance.
- Report non-compliances immediately to management.
- Develop corrective action plans and track to completion, where required.
- Participate in emergency response activities and demonstrate ability to coordinate response activities in the field.
Team Leadership
- Approve the laboratory analysis and dispatch schedules.
- Review monitoring schedules.
- Supervise Environmental Technician (Laboratory).
Additional Responsibilities
Safety
- Report all incidents and accidents in the work group to enable management to identify areas for improvement in work practices.
- Demonstrate leadership in safety and comply with Newmont’s policies and procedures that involve but are not limited to Safety inspections, Safety Training, Annual Refresher, Safety Talks, Incident Reporting and Investigation etc.
- Present information accurately at safety/environment meetings.
- Provide liaison support with the operations team to contribute to the creation of an end to-end life of mine (LOM) plan that accommodates concurrent reclamation and meets the agreed closure criteria.
- Participate in the review of closure and reclamation designs.
- Provide support for the preparation and update of the LOM closure and reclamation costs estimates.
- Support the coordination and the collation of all necessary information for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reclamation bonding process.
- Coordinate field work activities of Business Partners/Consultants engaged for closure and reclamation related projects and studies.
- Develop, implement, and measure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on success of Ahafo concurrent reclamation.
- Monitor all land disturbances from project development and related construction activities to ensure optimum stripping, stockpiling and management of topsoil as well as compliance to all requirements and procedures.
- Provide direct field support in the implementation of the bushfire prevention strategy and supervision of personnel engaged as part of the bushfire prevention program.
- Collect monitoring data related to revegetation dynamics, soil characteristics, and optimization of plant growth and prepare documentation and reports of reclamation success criteria.
- Supervise sitewide noxious weeds control.
- Support sitewide Biodiversity monitoring and management.
- Support the Environment team to ensure general visible felt leadership (VFL) through inspections, critical control verifications (CCVs) etc.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- First Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related fields.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years environmental management experience working in the mining or related industrial operations.
Additional Knowledge:
