Key Performance Areas

  • Support Estate Services Electrical operations by ensuring a safe, consistent power supply and ensure adequate life cycle management of electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Champion and plan preventative / preemptive electrical maintenance initiatives to reduce costs and downtime.
  • Ensure the Estate Support Services Electrical Infrastructure is legally compliant from an electrical perspective.
  • Adopt and embed best practices in electricity management, supply and maintenance, as guided by Group and Factory Optimization teams.
  • Leverage available support from country peers and escalate unresolved issues.
  • Develop and manage electrical maintenance and capital budget.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Factory teams (optimization and power generation).
  • Promote a culture of consistently assessing risks and drive continuous improvement.
  • Model Leadership behaviors, collaborating, partnering and communicating effectively within and between functions.
  • Provide coaching/training for electrical maintenance teams to ensure safe, consistent availability of Electrical systems and infrastructure.
  • Develop skills within the team and manage their performance against minimum standards and targets.
  • Adhere to SHERQ standards and promote world class safety practices.
  • Appointed competent person in accordance with electricity regulation to be in general charge of all electrical infrastructure under the area of jurisdiction.
  • Responsible for electrical safety in the workplace (area of jurisdiction) in accordance with regulations and the necessary standards.
  • Responsible for the appointment of competent persons to be supervisors, electricians in charge or electricians as may be required to supervise or effect the proper installation, examination, testing and maintenance of all electrical infrastructure in accordance with the electricity regulation and provisions.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all appointed electrical personnel are competent.
  • Management of MV switch programs and MV safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and project managers to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet industry standards.
  • Prepare safety and technical reports/documentation, including keeping/custodian of updated drawings, schematics, and test/work instructions & procedures.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with service providers and suppliers to ensure that high-quality materials and services are used in the management of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ensure safety of people and compliance with all relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, maintenance timelines, and provide regular progress reports to stakeholders.
  • Maintenance and management of the electrical infrastructure that supports the transmission and distribution of power, including power lines, substations, transformers, protection, metering, and related equipment in the area of jurisdiction.
  • Co-ordination of power outages schedules and programs. Ensure electricity reticulation and electrical equipment is legally compliant.
  • Implementation of technical solutions to address power system issues, such as voltage dips, outages, and system overload.

Minimum specifications / Requirements areas

  • Grade Twelve (12) Certificate.
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer of EIZ and Registered Engineer with Engineering Registration Board.
  • 5 years experience in HT and LT electricity supply and maintenance including extensive knowledge of control & Instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with Illovo systems would be an advantage (CMMS).
  • Proven track record with equivalent electrical infrastructure maintenance and improvement management.
  • Employee and contractor management experience and track record.
  • Continuous improvement knowledge and experience.
