Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the CACB Exploration Manager, the Exploration Geologist will conduct field-based work-programmes implementing fit for purpose exploration programmes, resulting in discovery of economically viable copper deposits that will positively impact Barrick’s growth. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following:
Provide a strong contribution to Barrick’s safety culture and programmes while encouraging and ensuring others do the same.
Communicating Honestly, Transparently, and Acting with Integrity.
Collaborate with the Exploration team to plan, supervise and execute exploration field activities, including drilling, trenching, mapping, geophysics and geochemistry.
Compile, validate and analyse data to generate, develop and assess exploration targets.
Alignment to exploration and geological best practice in our work programmes to deliver robust and high-quality data and collaborate with the team to generate geological targets.
Contribute to the development of target-scale geological models, through field-based data collection to improve our understanding of lithology, stratigraphy, structure, alteration and mineralisation.
Collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects with contribution from our mineral resource management, mining and social departments.
Implementation of Standard Operating procedures.
Monitor QA/QC procedures and ensure the integrity of all project datasets.
Be prepared to travel to field-offices and project areas on a rotational basis.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
Full Grade Twelve School Certificate
Bachelor’s degree in Geology / Geoscience from a recognised institution
Be a member of professional geoscience organisation and be open to training and professional development.
2 – 3 years’ experience in greenfield / brownfield exploration, with exposure to Sediment-hosted copper deposits of the Central African Copperbelt viewed favourably.
Understanding and recognition of mineralisation models and geological processes.
Geoscientific (geological, geochemical, geophysical) data integration and interpretive skills are an added advantage.
Exposure to world class exploration districts and Tier 1 ore bodies, would be seen as an advantage
Demonstrated proficiency in GIS and 3D geological modelling software. Experience with ArcGIS, Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, ioGAS is considered an asset.
Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and environment.
