The Facilities Assistant I supports the efficient operation, maintenance, and management of the organization’s facilities, ensuring that the premises are safe, clean, and well-maintained for employees, clients, and visitors. This role contributes to creating a functional and welcoming environment, enabling the organization to operate effectively and meet its objectives.
Key Functions
- Cleaning and Maintenance of Workspaces: Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors in offices, production areas, hallways, restrooms, and common areas. Dust and clean furniture, equipment, windows, walls, and other surfaces as required. Remove cobwebs and ensure all areas are clean and tidy at all times.
- Restroom Cleaning and Stocking: Maintain cleanliness in restrooms by cleaning sinks, toilets, mirrors, and floors regularly. Restock restroom supplies such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and hand sanitizers.
- Waste Management: Empty, clean, and sanitize trash bins daily. Safely dispose of garbage and recycling waste as per company guidelines. Assist in sorting and proper disposal of hazardous waste, where applicable.
- General Maintenance of Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness in break rooms, kitchenettes, and pantry areas by cleaning surfaces, equipment, and utensils. Ensure proper organization and cleaning of conference rooms and meeting spaces before and after use.
- Support to Facilities Management: Notify the Facilities Assistant III or Facilities Manager of any maintenance issues, such as leaks, broken fixtures, or safety hazards. Assist in maintaining cleanliness in outdoor areas, such as pathways, parking lots, and entrances. Report the need for replenishing cleaning supplies to the Facilities Assistant III.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety and hygiene standards while performing cleaning duties. Safely handle and store cleaning chemicals and equipment. Use protective gear, such as gloves and masks, as required while working.
- General Office Maintenance: Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture for meetings or events, monitor building systems, and report any issues.
- Additional Duties: Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
Education Background
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.
Experience
- At least one (1) year of experience in cleaning and sanitation services in a professional setting.
Skills
- Ability to perform general cleaning duties efficiently and effectively.
- Basic understanding of health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, mops, and scrubbers).
