The National Youth Council of Malawi is a statutory corporation established by an Act of Parliament-The National Youth Council of Malawi Act (Act No 22 of 1996). Its functions include developing, promoting, and controlling youth activities, registering youth organizations, organizing scholarships, establishing cooperation guidelines, and promoting training courses. The Council’s vision is to build a Malawi where young people can develop their full potential and contribute to sustainable development. It is an implementing arm of the Ministry of Youth, comprising the General Assembly, Board of Directors, Secretariat, and affiliates (registered youth organizations).

The National Youth Council of Malawi with technical and financial support from AGRA Malawi will be implementing a Youth Entrepreneurship for Future of Food and Agriculture (YEFFA), a 5-year program aimed at increasing youth and young women’s involvement in agricultural transformation. Focused on Malawi, the program, seeks to catalyze food systems transformation, creating 251,513 dignified job opportunities for youth, with a strong emphasis on female

We are therefore seeking dedicated, vibrant, dynamic and energetic people to join our team. The Field
Mobilizers will play a key role in ensuring that the project activities at the community level are implemented according to plan and all the necessary community structures are engaged and participating in the project activities. They will report to the Project Officers responsible for the four ADDs.

Overview:

The Field Mobilizers under this project will be responsible for establishing relationships, facilitating
participation, supporting and empowering the youth to enhance their participation in Agriculture. The
position involves registering youth in a database, organizing community events, providing capacity-building support, and fostering collaboration with other stakeholders in the community within the agriculture sector working with the youth.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. To mobilize, engage and register the youth in the program database so that they have the opportunity to participate or be involved in the various project interventions.
2. Act as a liaison between the project management team and local communities through facilitating
community engagement meetings, workshops and training sessions to raise awareness about the
project objectives and get feedback from community members.
3. Assist in monitoring the progress of agricultural activities and collecting relevant data for project
evaluation. Participate in assessments and data collection exercises to measure the impact of the
project on youth engagement in agriculture and share with the project management team on a periodic interval.
4. Support the capacity-building efforts of youth by organizing skills development trainings and
educational programs related to agriculture; so as to help youth acquire practical skills and knowledge
that enhance their employability and entrepreneurial abilities in the agricultural sector.
5. Collaborate with local stakeholders and structures, including government agencies, NGOs, agricultural extension services, and youth led organizations, to leverage resources, share expertise, and promote synergies in youth agriculture development initiatives.
6. Amplify youth voices, raise awareness about issues, and advocate for policy changes or social reforms to address systemic challenges around participation of youth in agriculture.
7. Ensure the participation and inclusion of marginalized groups, including young women and persons
with disabilities, in project activities. Promote gender equality and social inclusion principles across all aspects of the project.
8. Promote environmentally sustainable agricultural practices among youth participants, emphasizing soil conservation, water management, agroforestry, and organic farming techniques. Foster a culture of environmental stewardship and resilience to climate change.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a Diploma in any Agriculture related course, Social Work, Community Development, Development Studies, or any related field.
Previous experience in community (youth) organizing, mobilization, or development work.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders including
Marginalized/ Special Interest groups.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in English and Chichewa
Knowledge of good agricultural practices and agribusiness opportunities in Malawi
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
Knowledge of community and youth development principles, practices, and methodologies.
Commitment to youth development, gender equality and sustainable development principles.
