The overall responsibility of the Finance Officer (FO) is to serve as an overseer of all financial activities in the University, and provide financial advise to management on all matters relating to finances and financial policies.
The Finance Officer (FO) will lead in financial strategy, planning, investment, and control of the University’s finances; preparation and provision of periodic financial
reports to the Council; and supporting the University’s overall objectives and growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Preparing periodic Financial Statements, Management Reports and Investment proposals.
2. Coordinating, preparing and submission of university financial budgets to Council through management and Finance Committee of Council.
3. Ensure existence of adequate internal controls and adherence thereto.
4. Facilitating the university procurement process in compliance with relevant regulatory standards.
5. Maintaining proper accounting records and financial statements in readiness for internal and external audit.
6. Advising management on financial expenditure controls and revenue generation activities.
7. Ensure compliance with international and local regulatory frameworks.
8. Supervision performance assessment of staff in the Accounts office.
9. Advising university staff on financial management matters.
10. Maintaining cordial relationship with the Synod internal auditor and other cooperating partners.
Qualification and Experience
- Academic qualification: University degree in Accounting and Finance, Business Management, Entrepreneurship and other relevant degree. Those with or
pursuing professional accountancy qualifications will have an added advantage. - Experience: A minimum of five years’ experience in financial management at a senior position. Those who have worked with higher education institution will have an added advantage.
- Use of Accounting package: Must have more than three years experience in using
the SAGE accounting package
Attributes - Computer literacy: Practical knowledge of computer systems including internet
navigation and various Microsoft office applications. - Team spirit: Must be a team player with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Leadership traits: Must be a strategic thinker with sound leadership and management skills.
- Compliance: Must have knowledge of international and local regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to work within strict deadlines.
- Demonstration of sound judgement, statistical knowledge, analytical mind, attention to detail and integrity are required.
- Practising Christian in good standing with a local church.
