Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure that appropriate ground and slope performance monitoring devices (Radars, Total stations, and prisms) are used and maintained, and slope monitoring reports are sent out daily to the mining operations.
- Analyse slope monitoring data and report any anomalies.
- Monitor instrumentation system health and data flow, and report anomalies.
- Ensure service level agreement is in place for the survey prism monitoring equipment, radars and is kept up to date.
- Maintain the current equipment and instrumentation inventory including the slope stability radars, survey monitoring equipment, blast vibration monitoring equipment, nuclear density testing equipment and laboratory testing equipment.
- Work with Learning development department to ensure operations employees receive geotechnical SOP training and field-based hazard identification training.
- Maintain field and laboratory testing equipment and ensuring they are calibrated as per requirements.
- Management of geotechnical data collection including but not limited to tension crack measurements, field and laboratory testing for civil works.
- Manage all ground falls in and around the pits and provide appropriate remedial actions to failed or unstable slopes/ground.
- Provide input relating to ground control management into short-, medium- and long-term planning.
- Carry out audits, reviews, and quality assurance programs.
- Develop and update procedures and standards related to ground control.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to assist subordinates to work through the geotechnical skills matrix, thus providing technical progression and allow for succession planning.
- Appropriately plan and budget for works and equipment related to ground control management.
- Ensure all work activities comply with Zambian regulatory requirements and Barrick corporate standards.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Experience (6 years) mine geotechnical engineering
- BSc in Mining /Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia
- At least 3 years’ experience in open pit mining
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
- Good computer skills
- Zambian Driver’s license.
