As the principal GIS specialist for the Project your primary responsibilities will be to:
Coordinate data collection streams across all departments (law enforcement, community, conservation, operations, etc) such that data streams are uniform and accurate;

MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• As the principal GIS specialist for the Project your primary responsibilities will be to:
o Coordinate data collection streams across all departments (law enforcement, community, conservation, operations, etc) such that data streams are uniform and accurate;
o Develop a central GIS, in conjunction with AP functional services, to make geo-spatial data flow efficient, complete and available to users;
o Provide geo-spatial services (data collection, digitization, geo-referencing, data mining, analyses, download of geospatial datasets) and products in collaboration with all users;
o Participate fully in landscape planning process for the Boma-Badingilo Landscape;
o Manage data sharing with external partners.
• Develop and manage a control room data-flow for park operations and conservation planning, including:

o Develop communications protocols and data collection SOPs;
o Fine-tune data collection platforms including EarthRanger, ArcGIS, etc and ensure proper data storage and sharing protocols.
o Work with managers to ensure efficient communications across all park teams in the landscape;
o Oversee technology material management;
• Develop and manage a GIS team to provide geo-spatial services to users:
o Coordinate data collection streams across all departments (law enforcement, community, conservation, operations, etc) such that data streams are uniform and accurate;
o Develop a central GIS, in conjunction with AP functional services, to make geo-spatial data flow efficient, complete and available to users;
o Provide geo-spatial analyses and products in collaboration with all users;
o Participate fully in landscape planning process for the Boma-Badingilo Landscape;
o Manage data sharing with external partners.

• Develop and manage an analytical team to collate and analyse all data into products useful to inform park management, including:
o Collaborate with users to identify geo-spatial analytical needs;
o Design and conduct basic and advanced analytical training;
o Ensure the integrity and accuracy of analytical information stored in databases;
o Analyse geo-spatial data, with other technical personnel to produce products and insights for users.
• Manage an IT team and ensure functionality of all hardware and software utilised in geo-spatial data-flow.

Requirements:

Academic & experience required

• Degree in Geo-spatial science;
• Experience as a GIS analyst;
• Extensive experience with relevant software (ArcGIS, QGIS, EarthEngine, EarthRanger), preferably in a conservation context;
• Extensive experience in downloading, organising and analysing complex datasets (raster vector) and in disseminating such analysis in understandable and actionable way;
• Demonstrated map making skills for high level presentation;
• Experience training teams;
• Experience working in remote areas and familiarity with living in the bush;
• Knowledge of, and work experience in the area of intervention is a clear advantage.

• Strong willingness to live and work in a rural setting and remote areas;
• Excellent writing, reporting and presenting skills;
• Skilled with ArcGIS, QGIS, EarthEngine, EarthRanger, and data collection software;
• Proficiency with Python or other programming languages;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Good command of written and spoken English; Arabic beneficial.
