Job description

The job is part of the global MEAL Team at DRC’s HQ. We oversee the MEAL function in DRC and together we set standards, ensure quality, and provide support in all aspects of MEAL in countries. Furthermore, we drive important global processes, including our commitment to the Core Humanitarian Standard, Evaluations and Research, and DRC’s Information Management System approaches. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

 

  • To be the principal MEAL advisor for all countries in the region
  • Ensuring translation of global MEAL standards, practices, and policy, to the geographical and country context
  • Support appropriate resourcing for MEAL in countries, and participate in recruitments for the most senior MEAL posts in countries
  • Support the rollout of global IM systems in countries
  • Support countries on all technical aspects of MEAL as needed
  • As part of the global team foster knowledge exchange and learning across functions and geographical areas

 

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have practical experience in MEAL at country / programme level, together with a proven ability to step up to lead on processes within your technical expertise. As a global yet geographically distributed team we would like you to be able to work independently but connect seamlessly with colleagues in other duty stations, maintaining a global dynamic of collaboration, mutual exchange and support.  Moreover, we also expect the following:

 

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience within the field of MEAL
  • Experience working with International NGO’s, UN agencies, line ministries and/or local authorities in displacement settings including complex emergencies.
  •  Master’s or bachelor’s degree in relevant field

 

Desirable

  • Experience of working with or providing support to partners and/or a partnership model of working.
  • Demonstrable experience in the nurturing of organisational learning in programmes.
  • Proven facilitation and training skills with diverse audiences of NGO practitioners.
  • Proven understanding of the management of knowledge within NGOs or development organisations and an ability to link this to system development.
  • Proven understanding of research methodologies and the nature of evidence for influencing key decision makers in the area.
  • Experience in participatory assessment and community-based monitoring approaches.
  • Clear understanding of Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).
  • Experience with capacity building of staff, and in convening and facilitating trainings and workshops.

We offer

Contract length: Contract on relevant national terms (as per Kenya and Uganda labour laws), subject to funding

Band: F, Non-Management

Work location: Kampala, Uganda or Nairobi, Kenya

Start date: 1st April 2026
