Job description

Essential Duties:

  • Sets up and manages the accounts of IDEAs and IDEAs-Africa Network(IDAN) in accordance with financial compliance rules and procedures as well as financial reporting deadlines.
  • Institutes the necessary financial and administrative management systems for accurate recording and timely reporting in compliance with relevant laws and contractual agreements with donors and partners.
  • Verifies the accuracy of accounting entries to ensure that transactions are properly documented.
  • Manages program budgetary allocations.
  • Provides the technical team with the human, material and financial resources it needs to carry out its activities.
  • Approves supporting documents for expenses prepared by the operations department before the signature of cheques, transfer orders/transfers of funds by the Team Leader.
  • Oversees the preparation of budgets and expense reports.
  • Prepares the annual accounts and oversees the process of auditing the accounts ina timely manner.
  • Collaborates with the senior management team to ensure strong internal controls and financial management processes are implemented.
  • Manages and strengthens IDEAs’ financial and administrative systems.

· Provides technical support and advice to the Executive Director.

  • Writes activity reports or any other reports relevant to good financial and administrative practices.
  • Oversees the Recruitment of required human resources, in accordance with approved procedures and budget, and the management of personnel files.

Ensures compliance with relevant labor legislations in the management of human and financial resources.

Minimum Required Education & Experience

Qualified Accountant, Chartered with recognized professional accounting body or a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance with at least 8 years’ experience in administrative, financial and operational management of an international project or organization.

Skills & Abilities

  • Proven experience in professional accounting and/or auditing and reporting.
  • Previous experience working with international organizations.
  • Previous staff management experience.
  • Experience in the use of accounting software, particularly QuickBooks.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well with others (colleagues, contractors, and project partners).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and fluent proficiency in English is highly preferred. Working proficiency in French would be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work independently, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to obtain proper security clearances as noted by contracts.
