Responsibilities:
Conduct geological surveys to assess the composition and characteristics of rock formations in underground mines.
Collect and analyze data on physical properties, including strength, density, and porosity.
Assess the stability of underground openings, tunnels, and shafts.
Provide expertise in evaluating and mitigating geotechnical hazards, such as rockfalls and collapses.
Design and recommend ground support systems (rock bolts, mesh, shotcrete) to ensure stability of excavations.
Evaluate and optimize existing ground support systems for effectiveness.
Conduct detailed analysis of pit walls and underground slopes for stability.
Provide recommendations for slope design and monitoring to prevent collapses.
Implement and oversee geotechnical instrument systems to monitor ground movement, stress, and deformation.
Analyze monitoring data and provide timely warnings for potential issues.
Create accurate geotechnical maps of underground structures and rock formations.
Document geological features, faults, and other relevant information.
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Work closely with other departments to ensure safety protocols are implemented.
Collaborate with mining engineers to optimize underground mine designs.
Provide geotechnical input to mining plans and sequences.
Utilize geotechnical modeling software to simulate and analyze behavior of underground structures & rock masses.
Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and industry standards.
Participate in safety audits and inspections.
Prepare detailed geotechnical reports for management, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.
Communicate findings, recommendations, and potential risks effectively.
Stay updated on advancements in geotechnical engineering and mining technology.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of geotechnical processes.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
Professional engineering registration
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering
Expert experience on underground mining operations, with minimum of 10 years in UG environment
