Your Tasks:
As Head of Secretariat you are responsible for building alignment, consensus and a joint vision between multiple stakeholders to African-European energy affairs as the result of an active bicontinental dialogue; this inter alia entails the following tasks:
- You will support activities to achieve the global energy and climate goals, in particular to accelerate the expansion of renewable energies and energy efficiency in Africa;
- As “face and voice” of the AEEP you will represent the Partnership at relevant fora and act as contact point for African and European actors from the public sector, academia, civil society, and the private sector; this includes regular coordination and liaison with the African Union Commission as well as the EU Delegation to the African Union in Addis Ababa
- You will actively shape the AEEP’s agenda and strategy, as well as strengthening the active participation and expanding the members of the Partnership
- You will manage and coordinate the work of the AEEP Secretariat as per decisions of the AEEP Steering Group; this includes the organisation of dialogue events, the creation and dissemination of knowledge products, support to the implementation of joint African-European initiatives as well as information and advisory to the Steering Group members
- You will visibly promote the results of African-European cooperation on energy in relevant events as well as via adequate media channels
- You are responsible for an interdisciplinary Secretariat Team and for the administrative management of the Secretariat (budget, procurements, etc. in line with GIZ standards)
- You will manage the staff of the Secretariat in accordance with GIZ’s understanding of leadership and will cultivate appreciative leadership.
- Minimum Requirements:
- Master degree in energy, political sciences, economics or a related subject area
- Many years of work experience at a senior managerial level in the context of African and/or European energy affairs (incl. leadership experience)
- Many years of experience of representing a political organisation or a multi-stakeholder network at international level
- Very good knowledge of the African and European energy politics, and active professional networks to the African and European stakeholder landscape on energy
- Business fluent in English and French, German is an asset.
