The Health Officer is responsible for supporting a pool of volunteer youth trainers delivering Foundations of Health and Sexual Reproductive Health deliver quality training to youth corps members in Kapoeta North, Budi, Pibor, Akobo, Leer, Mayendit, Panyijiar, Ulang, Baliet, Wau, Jur River, and Juba. S/He will be responsible for identifying and strengthening linkages of youth to available youth-friendly health services. This position reports to the Public Health Specialist.
Specific tasks include:
- Conducting in-person health facility assessments in targeted locations to determine availability of youth-friendly services
- Supporting the refinement of a process and referrals map for strengthening the linkages between youth engaged in the project and trusted, community-based health services
- Updating and disseminating documents listing locations and information on youth-friendly SRH information and services in targeted counties
- Conducting in-person site visits to support Foundations of Health TOTs and / or rollout of FOH classes for youth
- Working with Procurement, Logistics and Finance teams to procure, print, and ship materials for Foundations of Health Trainings of Trainers (TOTs) to targeted counties, and documenting receipt
Implementing and monitoring the Foundations of Health curriculum
- Provide quality assurance (QA) and monitoring of FOH training and implementation, including recorded QA observations and providing supportive coaching and feedback to Zone Supervisors, lead FOH trainers and FOH facilitators
- Enhance relations with key stakeholders (community leaders, Anchor Organizations (AOs), Youth-Led and Youth-Serving Organizations (YLSOs), Youth Corps Leaders) to effectively support program implementation and address operational and programmatic questions and challenges.
- Contribute to internal knowledge capture and dissemination of key learnings within the Activity and promote innovation, improved methodologies, and high-quality project implementation.
Other Essential functions include (but are not limited to):
- Work closely and collaboratively with Public Health Specialist to complete monthly and quarterly workplan tasks and deliverables
- Engage in weekly or biweekly meetings with Deputy Chief of Party, EDC Technical Advisor(s), Public Health Specialist, and Heads of Departments to enhance quality programming.
Qualifications
The candidate for the position of Health Officer shall have at a minimum the following qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in public health, international development, Social Sciences or other related field required OR comparable number of years of professional experience.
Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 2-4 years of progressively responsible and relevant experience developing, providing technical assistance, and/or managing programs related to young people’s sexual and reproductive health, youth peer education, health care information and referrals, gender norms and GBV, and social and behavior change communication
- Experience developing, and supporting health-related training of trainers, including procurement and preparation of materials and items, facilitating training, and providing supportive management and follow-up.
- Experience monitoring and providing coaching and feedback to trainers or facilitators for program implementation.
- Experience working with or in public and private health facilities, including supporting health linkages and referrals for young people.
- Experience and capacity in development and delivery of SRH training components to community level partners and participants.
- Excellent computer literacy (windows environment, MS office applications including Word, Excel and Power-point and Internet skills);
- Strong organizational, communication, computer, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Good technical writing skills.
- Willingness to travel to provinces covered by the project
