Job description

This role is responsible for ensuring the safety of employee’s equipment and environment, minimizing risks and hazards in the workplace. preventing accidents and incidents as well as injuries to workers, improving preparedness to emergencies and ensuring compliance to relevant legislations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
2. Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to Health, Safety and welfare at work, meluding statutory training and reporting.
3. Ensure compliance to work procedures, lock-out, tag-out, try-out (LOTOTO) and Safety, Health and Environment standards in the manufacturing areas

4. Develop and implement corrective measures to the identified deviations of procedure implementations.

5. Conduct and participate in incident investigation and closure of open actions

6. Coordinate safety monthly inspection activities and file the reports.

7. Coordinate quarterly meetings for contractors, Safety Committee, Fire Marshals and First aiders.

8. Capture and track closure of audit findings.

9. Implement Emergency Response and Crisis Management Plan in an event of a serious accident.
10. Coordinate and participate in the investigation of accidents and near misses, and review and analyze accidents and near miss incidents.
11. Ensure that operations employees, contractors, and site visitors receive Health Safety and Environment inductions for field operations.
12. Coordinate the development and implementation of staff safety traming requirements and maintain records.

13. Prepare and present daily/weekly/monthly reports to senior management.
14. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health or Environment, or relevant field
Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health as an addition to the degree in case the candidate does not possess a degree in Occupational Health
Must be a member of Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association (ZOHSA)
At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role
Strong knowledge of Safety regulations and industry standards
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Competency in Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Risk Management and assessment.
Environment Social Impact Assessment and Fire Safety and Management
Must be computer literate
