As a Health, Safety and Environmental Officer, you will be responsible for assisting in developing and implementing safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and contractors on our construction sites. You will also play a crucial role in conducting risk assessments, training programs, and ensuring compliance with local and international safety regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Assist in the development and implementation of health, safety and environmental policies and procedures in accordance with local and international regulations.
• Conduct risk assessments and collaborate with site managers and engineers to implement effective control measures.
• Provide safety training to employees and contractors, including toolbox talks and inductions.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and provide recommendations for preventive measures.
• Keep abreast of changes in health and safety legislation and ensure company compliance.
• Collaborate with project teams to develop emergency response plans and procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions.
• Coordinate with relevant authorities for necessary permits and approvals related to health, safety and environment.
• Participate in regular safety meetings and provide updates on safety performance.
• Conduct regular equipment and machinery inspections to ensure they meet safety standards.
• Collaborate with supervisors to establish and maintain a positive safety culture within the organization.
• Ensure the provision and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on sites.
• Prepare and submit regular reports on health and safety performance to HSE Lead.
Other Duties
• Performs any other allied duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Health and Safety Lead or his designate.
Qualification Required & Experience
• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years proven experience as a Health and Safety Officer in the construction or mining industry.
• Being a Mincom certified Safety Officer will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of local and international health and safety regulations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct effective training sessions and toolbox talks.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to safety.
• Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with construction equipment and processes.
• Having a Valid Driver’s License with at least 18 months of driving manual vehicle is preferable.
