The HSE Assistant is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and environmental protection within Yalelo (U) Limited’s aquaculture operations. Their main objective is to ensure compliance with safety, occupational health, and environmental guidelines, support on data capturing and information management, Participate in Emergency Response Action as well as creating a safe working environment and preventing accidents or injuries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with planning and implementing safety, health, and environmental (HSE) policies and programs.
- Provide advice to employees on safety-related topics.
- Develop and deliver regular educational and training sessions on HSE topics.
- Collaborate with HR to establish a new employee onboarding process for safety, health, and environment.
- Conduct risk assessments, identify potential hazards and establish corrective actions.
- Enforce preventative measures and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Prepare and present reports on SIOs, Near-misses, First-aid cases, incidents/accidents, violations, and their causes.
- Ensure that all HSE related records are entered into the H&S/E&S management systems daily.
- Participate in development and deliverance of toolbox talks on a weekly basis.
- Oversee workplace repairs, installations, and any activities that could pose risks to employee safety.
- Participate in co-ordination of the department’s emergency procedures and serve as an on-site emergency coordinator.
- Inspect workplaces and equipment to ensure compliance with storage and safety regulations and identify hazards.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) according to regulations.
- Implement measures to prevent environmental degradation and ensure conservation practices.
- Maintain a chemical register for all products used on-site and ensure compliance with pesticide regulations.
- Establish and comply with waste from site, according to the approved waste management and disposal protocol.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of a Diploma in Environmental Management or a related field. Bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage.
- Certificate in Occupational Health, safety and Environment would be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in HSE related work.
- Sufficient knowledge of legislations and procedures related to safety, health, and environment.
- Familiarity with potentially hazardous materials and practices.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to effectively work as part of a team.
