Job description

Ga-Puka CDT is seeking three (3) Independent Trustees to join its board, with one of them appointed as the Chairperson.  The Board convenes regularly, with a minimum of six in-person or hybrid meetings scheduled annually, with the possibility of additional meetings as needed.

Key Responsibilities of the Role (Independent Trustees):

  1. Collaborate with fellow Trustees in managing disbursements, investments, and Trust Asset applications.
  2. Administer the Trust to achieve and maintain Trust Objectives, including its Public Benefit Organization (PBO) status.
  3. Act as one of the Trust’s authorized signatories.
  4. Facilitate consultations with the Ga-Puka community for Trust Objective implementation.
  5. Ensure proper financial management, effective internal controls, and risk management.
  6. Provide advice on relevant legislation and regulations.
  7. Take steps to ensure Trust Assets are utilized for their intended purpose.
  8. Review governance, focusing on Board composition, skills, effectiveness, leadership, and impact.
  9. Participate in planning and setting the Trust’s strategic direction for impactful development planning.
  10. Ensure compliance with the Trust Deed and the Trust Property Control Act.

Required Skills (Independent Trustees):

  1. Strong Leadership skills.
  2. Advanced understanding of sustainable development (Social, Environmental, and Economic Development) at the community level.
  3. Effective communication and community/stakeholder relations skills.
  4. Experience in community development projects or similar board exposure.

Required Education, Qualifications, and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Finance, Law, or Project Management.
  2. A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in community development, working in or with trusts as a board member of NGOs or NPOs, in the social development sector.
  3. A background in finance or law will be advantageous.
  4. Familiarity with the Mining Sector.

Candidates from Limpopo, preferably Polokwane/Mogalakwena, who are fluent in Sepedi and meet the above requirements are encouraged to apply.
