Purpose
Support the wider organisation to distil key stories from our work, creating content and promoting our strategic organisational objectives, with a focus on strong storytelling and digital. This role will utilise the power of digital and external communications to support programs/projects, events and engage new and existing stakeholders with Umunthu Plus’s varied work.
Key Responsibilities
- Grow our ability to tell stories behind programmes effectively to reach new audiences (Income Generation, Digital and Engagement).
- Feed into the content planning process, identifying and sourcing potential news stories and working across teams to plan and develop content to share across our platforms.
- Work with colleagues across the organisation to support their use of the Umunthu Plus’s website and communication channels
- Manage and update Umunthu Plus, ensuring that all documents on the Umunthu Plus digital platforms are correct and up to date;
- Responsible for the day to day running of Umunthu Plus’s social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram among others.
- Prepare advertising material as required, and liaise with local media outlets for print, radio and television advertising as needed
- To devise and execute end to end email marketing campaigns in conjunction with the Executive Director and in collaboration with colleagues, aimed at recruiting, engaging, and retaining members, supporters, donors, campaigners and volunteers.
- Prepare and distribute electronic communications including e-promotional materials, e-invites and information updates for Umunthu Plus events and activities
- Edit, manage and deliver the quarterly bulletins or newsletters and related communications for Umunthu Plus.
Professional Skills and Experience

Qualifications in communications, journalism or digital communications and multimedia (or equivalent experience obtained over a number of years).

Technical expertise in advanced content building, social media outreach, user journeys, linking, digital asset optimisation

A strong track record in generating engaging and error-free content across a range of digital channels and media.

Proven ability and previous successful experience of implementing digital and social campaigns.

Experience of working on multi-channel campaigns in collaboration with a range of stakeholders and suppliers to deliver optimum experience and results.

Photographic/video skills including Photoshop and basic video editing.
