Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager: Inclusive Growth, the Intern will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in planning, implementing, administration, monitoring, and evaluating the UNDP Inclusive Growth programme and projects
  • Collect and analyze socio-economic data relevant to the promotion of inclusive and sustainable growth in South Africa
  • Support the formulation of strategies and the monitoring of progress towards the achievement of the SDGs
  • Research potential partners and funding opportunities
  • Develop concept notes
  • Support stakeholder management
  • Support the planning and organization of events
  • Support the development of communication and knowledge management products
  • Attend conferences and meetings with stakeholders and prepare meeting minutes
  • Assist in drafting and preparing official documents
  • Any other tasks as may be required

  • Above average understanding and knowledge of development issues in South Africa

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Excellent computer literacy in standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Required Skills and Experience
Education:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or
  • have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies.
  • Field of study: Business/Public Administration, Economic or Social Sciences  or equivalent.

IT skills:

  • Knowledge and a proficiency user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;

Internet based working tools

Experience:
  • Work experience is an asset but not a requirement. The intern must be eager and proactive.
  • Understanding of issues related to inclusive growth and the SDGs is advantageous.
  • Exposure to international development in inclusive growth and South Africa’s development is a significant bonus.
