The Assistant Lab Technician will play a crucial role in supporting the laboratory’s soil and fertilizer testing operations. This position involves performing routine and specialized chemical analyses, preparing samples, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring adherence to quality control procedures.
Position Responsibilities:
- Sample Preparation: Receive, log, and prepare soil and fertilizer samples for analysis, including drying, grinding, sieving, and homogenizing.
- Chemical Analysis: Perform routine chemical analyses of soil and fertilizer samples, including but not limited to pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic matter, and nutrient content (N, P, K, micronutrients, Moisture content, particle size analysis, and other physical properties.
- Quality Control: Perform quality control checks, including running standards, blanks, and duplicates.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace, Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Data Management: Enter and manage data in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and generate various reports of test results.
- Safety: Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
- Assist with other laboratory tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Soil Science, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of proven experience in a laboratory setting, preferably with soil and fertilizer testing.
- Strong knowledge of basic chemistry principles and analytical techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow SOPs and work independently.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures.
