Key Responsibilities
1. Reagent Production & Quality Control a) Express, purify, and characterize recombinant antigens (e.g., spike, nucleoprotein) used in humoral assays.
b) Maintain sterile mammalian tissue culture systems for antigen and pseudovirus production.
c) Perform SDS-PAGE, BCA, and endotoxin quantification to evaluate antigen quality and batch consistency.
d) Support pseudovirus generation, titration, and stability testing under GCLP-compliant workflows. e) Document all production steps, QC metrics, and reagent traceability as per SOPs.
2. Support for Immunological Assays a) Assist with downstream ELISA, ELISpot, and neutralisation assays, ensuring reagents are appropriately prepared, stored, and qualified.
b) Calibrate and QC plate readers, biosafety cabinets, incubators, and other assay-supporting equipment.
c) Coordinate reagent lot reservation and usage schedules to ensure uninterrupted assay pipelines. 3. Laboratory Systems & Compliance a) Uphold GCLP standards by maintaining clean workspaces, validating equipment, monitoring cold chain storage, and backing up data regularly.
b) Participate in EQA schemes, internal QA reviews, and periodic assay qualifications.
c) Implement and update SOPs relevant to antigen production and assay reagent handling.
4. Sample Handling & Safety a) Receive and store clinical samples in accordance with ethical protocols. b) Ship biological samples to international labs under IATA-compliant conditions.
c) Conduct safety inductions, ensure use of PPE, manage first aid inventory, and contribute to biosafety audits.
5. Training & Mentorship
a) Train junior staff, interns, or attachments in relevant techniques, including reagent QC and basic immunoassay support.
b) Supervise and mentor Assistant Technologists, when applicable. Qualifications
Lab Tech R&D a) A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Biological Sciences (e.g., Biochemistry, Molecular Biology).
b) Minimum one year of hands-on lab experience with antigen expression, purification, or immunological assays.
c) Demonstrated training or experience in GCLP, biosafety, or sample shipping (IATA). d) A credit in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry at O & A Level. e) Strong skills in data entry, record keeping, and Microsoft Office; statistical knowledge is desirable
