Facilitate Project Implementation: Under the supervision of the Livelihoods Officer, the Project Assistant is required to support implementation of project activities in Makpandu in accordance with the project work plan and objectives, including assist with community outreach and engagement, including beneficiary registration, community-led planning and implementation of project activities; beneficiaries selection takes into consideration gender, age, ethnic identities and clan and tribal affiliations and conduct the beneficiary profile registration and verification;
Provide agricultural extension services: The job holder deals with daily farming problems – have to think fast of practical methods of dealing with these problems, helping them to transition from traditional/subsistence to improved production practices. S/he is responsible for consultation with farmers and agri-businesses, guides and offer actual demonstration on the latest technologies related to agriculture and on how they can take advantage of such technologies, work with other experts in agriculture to learn more and develop new methods that could advance production.
Inter-Agency Coordination and networking: Work closely with County Agriculture/Livestock staff and other NGOs staff in training, mentorship and coaching of farmers and agri-businesses to facilitate promotion of improved agronomic practices
Community engagement: Motivate farmers to produce marketable or exchangeable surplus beyond meeting the family food needs. Conduct activities in a community- and rights-based, participatory manner, maintaining an Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD), and conflict-sensitive approach to community engagement.
Capacity Building: Assist the Livelihoods Officer in training beneficiaries on diversification of livelihoods strategies, including agronomy, livestock, financial inclusion, cooperative works, vocational training and entrepreneurship among others to enhance their self-reliance.
Facilitate local testing of yield improving technology and returns over traditional methods – combining several locally proven new practices such as improved variety, fertilizer/manures, seed selection, improved control of weeds, pests, and diseases, improvements in land preparation, water management, harvesting, and storage.
Information management and reporting: Assist in data collection through FGDs and KIIs assessments as relevant in coordination with QA team; Take full responsibility for filing the project documents under the supervision of the Project Officer. Compile and submit project reports, human interest stories, photos and other narrative documents as required.
Carry out any other duties as delegated by management
Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:
- Diploma in Development Studies, Agriculture or another related field.
- Minimum of 3-years’ working experience with humanitarian program in the fields of livelihoods and economic strengthening interventions.
- Excellent command of the most common methodologies to identify, assess and monitor livelihood activities, with proven record of achievements.
- Strong analysis skills (qualitative and qualitative)
- Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Good understanding of complex emergencies and crisis contexts
- Goal oriented with ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and local Arabic.
- Having demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; organized, efficient, and able to work long hours to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work under pressure in unstable security and remote location with basic necessities a big plus.
