The TA/RP will be under the hierarchical responsibility of the Director of Operations, in liaison with the Program Manager of the Livestock Animal Health Unit at AVSF headquarters and the Inter Aide Project Manager, and in close coordination with the Inter Aide teams. in Ethiopia and France. His/her role will be to manage and monitor the implementation of project activities relating to livestock, as well as to ensure monitoring-evaluation, reporting and capitalization of this component of the project. He/she will supervise the team of local technical assistants (2 people to date).
More specifically, the AT/RP will have to continue the deployment of experimental activities and studies on the main determining factors of milk production launched in phase I (feeding and breeding practices, disease prevention, genetic improvement), deepen the strategy of support for decentralized veterinary services to improve the service provided to breeding families, and develop the milk sector for the benefit of small breeders.
Beyond the technical functions and operational management of project activities, the person recruited will also ensure the strengthening of links with local and national authorities in the field of livestock (Ministry of Livestock) and in particular animal health (veterinary services).
He/she will ensure the official representation of AVSF in Ethiopia, with local and even national authorities, as well as with the country coordination of Inter Aide, and will contribute to the advocacy, communication and associative life of AVSF in Ethiopia and in general.
Living and working conditions:
– Position based in the Central Ethiopia region, in the town of Shinshicho (where there is already a house furnished for rent) or town of Sodo with daily travel to Shinshicho;
– Plan very frequent and regular trips to the field, in the administrative zones of Kembata and Tembaro Special Woreda, Hadiya and northwest Wolayta;
– An Inter Aide car is allocated to AVSF for the activities of the livestock component and for personal use outside working hours (company car);
– Security: Security conditions are good on the ground (Project area in yellow on the MEAE map). The person recruited will respect the security rules in force both at AVSF and within the InterAide team locally.
Required profile
– Education: higher education (Master’s degree or equivalent) in veterinary sciences, animal production, agronomy or agroeconomics. A specialization or strong interest in production (zootechnics) and/or animal sectors is a plus.
– Experience: proven experience of at least 3 years in a project management position within an NGO or similar institution, in the field of rural and local development
– Other skills: aptitude for teamwork and field work, strong analytical and synthesis skills, strong interpersonal and writing skills, and good personal capacity for autonomy and adaptation to work in difficult local conditions.
