The Locum Dental Officer shall be responsible for providing preventive, diagnostic, and educational dental services within the school health program to promote and maintain oral health among students. He/she will be involved in conducting oral health assessments, delivering dental treatments, providing oral hygiene education, and coordinating referrals for further treatment. He/she will collaborate closely with school health personnel, parents, and community dental services to support the comprehensive health and well-being of the student population.

- Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine dental exams, screenings, and assessments to identify dental issues such as cavities, gum disease, and other oral health concerns.
- Document findings, maintain student dental records, and provide recommendations for preventive care.
- Deliver preventive dental treatments such as fluoride applications and dental sealants, as appropriate.
- Provide basic treatment services within the scope of practice, including dental cleaning, scaling, and minor restorative care, when required.
- Educate students, parents, and staff on proper oral hygiene practices, such as brushing, flossing, and diet for dental health.
- Develop and deliver presentations, workshops, and health promotion activities related to oral hygiene and dental care.
- Refer students to external dental specialists or community dental services for treatment beyond the school’s scope of care.
- Track and follow up on referred cases to ensure continuity of care and positive health outcomes.
- Work closely with school nurses, counselors, and other health staff to ensure integrated care for students.
- Communicate with parents regarding students’ oral health status, treatment plans, and follow- up needs.
- Maintain accurate dental records for each student and compile reports for the school administration or health authorities as needed.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, local health regulations, and confidentiality standards.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS: Locum Dental Officer
Minimum Academic Qualifications: Degree in Dentistry (DDS or equivalent) from an accredited institution and fully registered/ licensed with the relevant professional councils.
Additional Training: Certification or registration as a Dental Officer or equivalent.
Required Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in pediatric dentistry or working with school-age children is preferred.

- Strong knowledge of preventive dental care, oral health education, and minor dental procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in working with children, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to work independently within the school setting and as part of a multidisciplinary health team.
- Comprehensive training in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) conditions is an added advantage.
