Coordinate the concentrate off take contracts and internal and external customers:
- Liaise with the mining and processing departments on copper concentrate forecast schedules on production tonnes.
- Planning and distribution of daily, weekly and monthly concentrate dispatch schedules.
- Liaising with customers on planned concentrate deliveries and production schedules.
- Coordinate concentrate quality issues from a producer/ customer perspective.
- Ensure all concentrate sales are covered by letters of credit or other acceptable guarantees.
- Liaise with internal and external customers on shipment lots received vs LMC dispatch schedules and assay exchange information.
- Review annual market rates for international road and sea freight rates for copper concentrate and blister products.
Coordinate the Accounts Management of Concentrate sales and Transport Contract Payments:
- Oversee the collection and verification of all relevant documentation of LMC concentrate deliveries to buyers required for the execution of the invoices.
- Ensure regular liaison with the metallurgical accounting department of LMC on:
- Ensure regular liaison with the relevant assay laboratories on:
- Coordinate prepayments from customers to limit exposure to LMC
- Check and approve backing spreadsheets required for provisional and final invoices per individual contracts.
- Ensure assay exchanges are done regularly according to contractual requirements.
- Ensure relevant invoices are received by customers according to contract requirements and are recognised in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
- Engage in contract negotiations, resolution of contractual disputes safeguarding Barrick’s interest whilst driving a partnership model
- Haulage Contract
Concentrate Logistics:
- Coordinate the transport contracts
- Planning and distribution of:
- Daily, weekly and monthly concentrate dispatch schedules
- Daily blending reports for quality and copper content
- Coordinate loading and trucking schedules with the processing department and the trucking contractors.
- Coordinate loading and transport security matters.
- Implementation of tracking mechanisms for concentrate deliveries, haulage contractor performance
- Ensure conformance to Zambian regulations
Departmental administration, coordination and continuous improvement.
- Compiling of annual marketing sectional budget and monthly forecast.
- Continually review every aspect of the sectional operation to ensure that opportunities to add value and enhance shareholder wealth are identified and implemented.
- Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness. Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
- Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the team.
- Accountable for completion of all tasks identified in the Management Operating System (MOS) to the specified quality and timelines as assigned to this role
- Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in LMC’s mining activities, consistent with Barrick’s Community Relations Policies.
- Become actively involved in Barrick’s aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people. Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business.
- Prepare and manage the budget for the function.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of up-to-date job procedures for all tasks performed within the function.
- Develop objectives for sharing common infrastructure and support services across Barrick and cascade this throughout the function.
- Ensure effective communication with delegate prior to departure from site
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or economics or equivalent
- Six (6) years experience in copper concentrates and / or copper metal marketing and logistics business.
- Must have strong commercial background and exposure to the mineral/metals in mining industry
- Must be Commercially astute.
- Must have strong negotiation skills
- B. Commerce will be an added advantage
- Must have sound knowledge of contract law in Zambian
