To operate Mobile Harbor Cranes and Mechanical Lifting and Stacking Equipment by moving and placing cargo from vessels to shore, and vice versa.
The role reports directly to the Supervisor: General Cargo Operations.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
• Perform daily checks on mechanical lifting equipment.
• Operate Mobile Harbor Cranes.
• Maintain maximum levels of crane productivity at all times by participating in planning of the vessel-discharging and loading of containers
and break bulk.
• Operate safely and efficiently, always ensuring smooth movement of the cargo for safe operation.
• Execute tandem lifting operations.
• Account for the associated administration and reporting duties.
• Partake in the cleaning, lubrication, and maintenance of mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, and making repairs, as necessary.
• Contribute to on-the-job training of new operators as required.
• Perform any other ad-hoc duties as and when required.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent recognized qualification.
• Five (5) years’ relevant work experience.
• Code 11 Driver’s License.
• Experience operating Mobile Harbor Cranes and Mechanical Lifting and Stacking equipment.
• Time management and problem-solving skills.
• Maintain a professional and composed demeanor in high pressure situations.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Good decision making, judgement and communication skills.
