- This role shall manage, supervise, and coordinate process plant Mechanical Maintenance Technicians (including contractors) involved with rubber lining, belt splicing, blasting, painting, and scaffolding.
- Manage mechanical maintenance work for your areas of responsibility to ensure that availability goals are attained, and production plans are achieved.
In This Role You Will:
Health, Safety and Management
- Comply with the Mine Regulation Act and other applicable regulation clauses that apply to one’s own work area.
- Oversee that all statutory requirements are met.
- Maintain own and teams’ compliance with Plant procedures, including MOS.
- Instruct team personnel on safe work practices and conduct regular workplace inspections.
- Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his / her supervision.
- Conduct periodic safety meetings and inspections.
- Attend monthly safety inspections and meetings.
Rubber Lining Maintenance Execution
- Manage and coordinate daily corrective actions.
- Work with process maintenance department to achieve process plant equipment efficiency and availability.
- Build, develop, and manage Rubber Lining Team capable of carrying out needed engineering initiatives.
- Assist in conducting failure analysis studies and recommend alternative strategies for maintenance.
- Assist or liaise with Administrative Coordinator in communicating the maintenance mission, vision, goals, and objective to the maintenance workforce.
- Contribute to a climate of mutual respect, team spirit and team identity.
- Approve requisition, purchasing of items at the warehouse and searching of parts, estimated time of arrival of items to plan work effectively.
- Work in conjunction with the Senior Asset Planner to determine rubber maintenance backlogs, scheduling, resource allocation and equipment shutdown planning.
- Assist in the development and review of the maintenance standard task procedures (STP’s).
- Conduct performance appraisals six monthly.
- Work with operation supervisors on the best practices to get task done without affecting production.
- Liaise with planning on backlog, scheduling, equipment shutdown planning and resource.
- Liaise with maintenance management to identify training needs of the mechanical employee’s workforce.
- Ensure all employees receive appropriate training to enable them to undertake their roles as diligently, efficiently and safely.
Rubber Lining & Belt Splicing Maintenance Supervision
- Oversee mechanical (rubber lining) maintenance work in all process areas (i.e. Crushing, Grinding, Carbon in Leach (CIL), Elution, Counter Current Decantaion(CCD)).
- Provide hands-on assistance during operations activities and ensure that safe work practices are followed.
- Conduct shift handover meetings during shutdowns.
- Provide technical support when major rubber lining maintenance work is to be carried out on any plant equipment.
- Manage and coordinate daily corrective actions.
Reporting
- Produce reports indicating jobs completed for the day and submit the report to the General Foreman.
- Identify and eliminate or report any wasteful practices.
- Ensure any training or skill deficiencies the team may have been discussed with and addressed with maintenance management.
Staff Supervision
- Supervise contractors in the completion of mechanical maintenance work and activities.
- Work in conjunction with Top Management and other Supervisors, to track maintenance work completion and when contractors are required for work.
- Supervise team responsible for the maintenance of the Process Plant and associated facilities.
- Supervise allocated staff member(s) by:
- leading and supporting Rubber Lining Technicians
- providing on-the-job training, mentoring and coaching.
- furthering career development of Rubber Lining Technicians.
- recommending further / relevant training courses and development actions.
- recommending salary increases or promotions for staff.
- disciplining poor performance or actions (first level of disciplinary).
- approving leave (first signature) and enhancing communication with staff through regular feedback, contact, meetings, and briefings.
- Participate in call out roster.
- Responsible for all mechanical conveyor work including belt splicing.
- Responsible for all rubber lining work on site.
- Conduct daily scaffold inspections and keep scaffold register.
Work Scheduling and Allocation
- Schedule tasks for the mechanical maintenance crew according to the drafted plan.
- Provide and coordinate support to the team executing plant modifications to achieve results in a timely manner.
Your Trainings, Skills and Experience:
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- Qualified HND Mechanical Engineering or Its Equivalent.
- Qualified Belt splicer.
Additional Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of maintenance of plant equipment.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 – 7 years’ experience in a mechanical maintenance environment within a mining process plant or similar.
Minimum of 3 – 4 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity, managing large and diverse teams.
